Through a combination of rising consumer awareness and a recent surge in bookings, priceline.com said today that more than 50,000 leisure airline priceline tickets have now been purchased through the system.
Priceline.com sells leisure airline tickets on the Internet at http://www.priceline.com and through a toll-free 1-800-PRICELINE number. There is never a charge to request a leisure airline ticket. Priceline.com is the only service on or off the Internet where consumers can name the price they are willing to pay for an airline ticket on a major airline. Priceline.com takes the consumer's offer and works to find an airline willing to release one of 500,000 seats which fly empty every day. Currently, fifteen major domestic and international carriers participate in the priceline.com service. Priceline.com's second service, initially available in the New York metro area, allows consumers to name their own price for a new car or truck.
"Increasingly, consumers are finding that the Internet offers powerful new ways to travel within almost any budget," said Jay Walker, chairman and CEO of priceline.com. "As we move from summer into the school and holiday travel seasons, we expect even more travelers will be using priceline.com to name their own price for a leisure airline priceline ticket."
With increasing sales, priceline.com has become one of the nation's top 10 sellers of leisure airline tickets. At peak times, priceline.com sells a ticket every 70 seconds. Many consumers know priceline.com through its nationwide advertising program, featuring celebrity spokesman William Shatner.
