AIRFARE CHEAP PARIS Now the two are fleshing out a partnership that links Air France's connecting hub at de Gaulle, quickly becoming Europe's biggest, with Delta's mammoth hub in Atlanta, already the world's largest. "We have linked, I would argue, the most successful hubs in the world in terms of capacity, schedules and reach," said Mark Drusch, vice president of network development at Delta. AIRFARE CHEAP PARIS Delta and Air France hope to catch up with better-developed alliances involving their chief rivals, all trying to build the best global network of routes and services to offer travelers and corporations. At the heart of such alliances are "code-share" connections in which the partners sell seats on each other's flights, dramatically expanding their marketing reach. They offer one-stop booking services, joint frequent flier benefits and reciprocal airport lounge access. It's all aimed at drawing loyal fliers --- and especially business travelers --- into the partners' combined networks. AIRFARE CHEAP PARIS "We can draw up really cool maps showing the links, but it doesn't matter unless it adds some value for the customer," Drusch said. One immediate byproduct of the Delta-Air France deal is more Atlanta-Paris service, as the two carriers funnel passengers into each others' hubs. Air France this spring is adding a second daily flight to Atlanta. Delta has one daily Paris flight and may also add a second, though probably not this year. The two airlines estimate they can offer 15,000 possible route combinations, six times as many as either offers on its own. In joining forces with Air France, Delta is forsaking a longstanding alliance with Swissair that will end this year. On the other hand, Air France has a spottier service reputation.
