7/7/2003
According to a recent study of Internet travelers conducted by the Travel Industry Association of America (TIA), some 96 million travelers use the Internet to research travel. Statistically speaking, chances are your Las Vegas clients are as or more knowledgeable than you are about the city and its offerings. But you can stay up with your cyber-savvy clients by becoming familiar with the various Web sites offering up-to-the-minute information on Las Vegas hotels, entertainment, dining and attractions.

Kevin Bagger, director of Internet marketing and research for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), says the most important things to look for when using the Web to provide Las Vegas information to clients are timeliness and accuracy. "The biggest concern is to make sure that [you're viewing] the most up-to-date information, because the destination is constantly changing," he says." Make sure you are able to verify that the information is as current as possible." Also important to remember is that while many of these sites offer valuable information and insider tips that will be useful in your Vegas sales, some work off a travel agent model themselves and do not offer a commission to other agents. Peruse the sites for facts to share with clients, then contact your favorite wholesaler or book the trip yourself. Following is a rundown of some of the most informative Vegas sites residing in cyberspace today.

The site--the only supplier-owned one for Las Vegas travel-- was launched six months ago, says a spokesperson, to "take back the inventory that the hotels had carelessly given away through third-party distribution channels." The site includes information and special offers from more than 100 hotels. Complete packages can be booked on the site, which sells air, hotel, shows and car rentals. This is another site that can offer best-kept secrets and other valuable gems to share with your clients. Insider tips--particularly for the Park Place and Mandalay Resorts hotels--are in abundance.

vegasfreedom.com: Earlier this year, the LVCVA launched two redesigned Web sits: one designed for consumers and one for the travel trade. Vegasfreedom.com--the consumer site--is an interactive virtual playground, intended, says Bagger, to be "experiential"--to evoke the experience of a visit to Vegas and to complement the city's 2003 Vegas Stories ad campaign. With funky new features such as "Dice of Truth" (like a Magic Eight Ball--you ask a question and the Dice of Truth answers) and Vegas Stories--a series of real-life, only-in-Vegas stories submitted by past visitors--the site serves as more than just a resource tool, but an incentive to travel. In addition to the fun and games, the Las Vegas Guidebook section offers a comprehensive database of hotel, show, dining, golf and attraction information, and is updated daily.....
